Dr. Madhurjyya Mondit Baruah, MA, PhD

Dr. Madhurjyya Mondit Baruah is a multifaceted personality who has made significant contributions to the fields of research, history, literature, and education. As a writer, researcher, historian, and teacher, he has left an indelible mark on the academic landscape of Assam.

Dr. Baruah's research endeavors have been instrumental in shedding light on the rich history and culture of Assam. His magnum opus, "Assam Buranji," a three-volume compilation, is a testament to his meticulous research and dedication to the field. Additionally, his research works, including "Kalita Jatir Itihas," "Ram Saraswati," "Asomiya Mahabharatiya Sahitya," and "Birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva," have greatly enriched our understanding of Assam's history and culture.

As a supervisor, Dr. Baruah has guided six researchers in obtaining their PhD degrees from the University, with four more currently pursuing their doctoral studies under his guidance. His expertise and mentorship have been invaluable to these scholars.

Dr. Baruah's contributions to research and literature have been recognized through numerous awards and accolades. He was awarded the Ram Saraswati Award in 2018, the Birina Sahitya Award in 2021, and the Ranju Hazarika Sahitya Award in 2023. In 2023, he also received the Human Rights Award from the Assam Branch of the National Bureau of Human Rights and Crime Control for his contributions to the history and research of the Assamese language. In 2024, he was conferred the Asom-Itihas Gavesana Award.

Born on June 24, 1974, in Hoiborgaon, Nagaon, Dr. Baruah completed his Master's degree from the Department of Assamese, Gauhati University, and his PhD from the Department of Modern Indian Language and Literary Studies, Gauhati University. His research topic for his PhD degree was "Asomiya Mahabharatiya Sahitya."

Dr. Baruah's academic career spans over two decades, with stints as a part-time teacher at Nagaon Girls College, Principal of Srimanta Sankardev College, Nagaon, and Head of the Department of Assamese at Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya. He has also served as the Director of Research and Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell at the University.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dr. Baruah has been actively involved in journalism, serving as the editor of several newspapers and magazines, including Ganatantra, Natun Abhiyaan, Hiya, Kavach, Asomiya Sanyog, and Ananya. He has also worked as the Senior Deputy Editor of the daily newspaper Ajir Batori.

Dr. Baruah has been an integral part of various literary and cultural organizations, serving as a member of the Assamese Language Advisory Council of the Sahitya Akademi, Secretary of the Srimanta Sankardev Kosh Prakalpa of the Asom Sahitya Sabha, and Vice-President of the Ethnic History Project of the Sabha. He was the founding Secretary General of the Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilanee and the founding Director of Srimanta Sankardev Kalatirtha.

Currently, Dr. Baruah serves as the Registrar in charge of Auniati University, a position he has held since October 2024.
